That’s Messed Up!
By: Craig Maart
Recently, one of our chaplains and I were on the phone for our regular check-in, and he shared this story. A woman came to see him. She has been driving a truck for a few years. After sitting in on a chapel service, she asked to speak with him. She shared that she never knew who her dad was, and her mom had different men coming in and out of the house on a regular basis. This unfortunately led to her being abused at a very young age.
One day, she overheard her mother on the phone yelling, “I can’t do this anymore,” and left her with her little sister in a run-down, filthy house. The two girls ended up being raised by grandparents who did the best they could, but it was still rough.
Our chaplain asked her if she had a relationship with Jesus. She said she believed in God but was so confused, angry, and felt so messed up and not worth much. How could she not feel this way? How could she even function after all that? The chaplain explained the unconditional love of Jesus and His acceptance of her no matter what. She may have felt messed up, but God offers the only way to clean up a mess. After more conversation, she gave her life to Jesus. She repented of her sin, believed that when Jesus died on the cross, it was for her, and asked Jesus to save her! What a day!
The chaplain gave her a new Bible, helpful new believer resources, and a certificate symbolizing the day she gave her life to Jesus. Can you see the angels rejoicing in heaven because one more person stopped resisting and asked Jesus to save them? God got out His pen and wrote another name down in the Book of Life. What could be better than that?
