International Ministries Update – March 2025

April 1, 2025/in International Ministries/by Joanna

Testimony from Lameck Tunu:

We went to a Checkmate truck gathering point with my colleagues to share Christ with the truckers. My colleagues and I approached four drivers who were standing outside their trucks. One of the trucks had a problem, so the mechanics were working on it as we started sharing Christ with them.

While my colleagues were talking to these drivers, I saw another driver switch on his truck and get ready to leave. The Holy Spirit insisted that I go and talk to him, so I moved fast and stopped him. I requested that he switch off his engine, which he did. He came down out of his truck to talk to me.

As I started sharing the word of God with him, he started sobbing. I didn’t know what was the matter, so I paused for a moment and asked him about his life and family. This is what he told me: He had been without a job for three years. As a result, his children were chased out of school. Life became tougher and tougher, so he sent his family to the rural area (out of the city), as he was unable to care for their needs. Today was his first trip as a driver after three years without a job. After he started driving on his trip, at a stopover, some thieves robbed him of 60 liters of fuel. He didn’t know what to do. He was certain he was going to lose his job because of this.

We prayed for him to keep his job and also shared the gospel. With tears, he received Christ.

After two days, he called us and said God had defended him. His employer was not angry with him; he wasn’t sacked. He was very happy talking over the phone. Glory to God! The driver shared that he has seven children. I felt led of the Lord to take the name of the second-to-last kid and decided to support her financially by the grace of God.

International Ministries Update – Feb. 2025

February 1, 2025/in International Ministries/by Joanna

From: Adriaan Fourie

On Christmas Day we decided to go serve some truckers with encouragement as they were away from their loved ones on this day of celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The warm smile of appreciation by Richard, was encouraging to us, as he was one of two truckers that we could find en route. It was quite interesting and comforting to realize that most trucks in the Madibeng (Brits) area were parked at various truck stops for the day, while truckers were at home with their families or could take some rest.

Truck stops were literally abandoned and “quiet” in terms of trucking traffic. Only serving two truckers for the day confirmed once again that God had an appointment with them and that we were commissioned to reach out to them specifically.

Praise the Lord for this opportunity. Please pray for all truck drivers en route wherever you may travel or may be located.

International Ministries Update – December 2024

December 5, 2024/in International Ministries/by Joanna

From: Adriaan Fourie

Sister Lameck Tunu from Kenya shared her experience of God’s provision, just as He did for Ruth and Esther in the Bible. As a woman in ministry, serving God where He permits, it is quite difficult in a world and culture where men are predominantly expected to guide. As such, this humble lady (from a Muslim background as a child) is dedicated to serving truck drivers without regard to the challenges that come with this type of ministry. When she talks to male drivers, she needs godly men who can accompany her to provide acceptance from those drivers being served. Since these men are needed, Ms. Tunu is expected to pay for their travel expenses and meals. If not, the men would be reluctant to help her, even though she communicates that this is a matter of faith without financial support being promised. But she lives with the knowledge that where God guides, He will provide.

And provide He does! Here is a specific witness to her faith and God’s provision. She received a call from a pastor who lives in the major port city of the Mombasa Highway on the coast of Kenya. The pastor wanted her to share about the ministry she is doing to the trucking community with a group of ministry leaders. The trip would be about 500 kilometers (300 miles) one way. She had no money for this trip or for accommodations while staying in the city. She also knew of several families of the drivers she had shared the gospel with earlier in the week who lived in this city. The drivers asked if she would visit them. So, God had guided her to two opportunities for ministry without any funds to make this trip.

She planned; God provided. The day before her trip, an unexpected gift from a family member covered all of her costs for the trip. In addition, she was able to offer a small gift to the families of the drivers. It was such a blessing and encouragement to both the church community and the families to show how God provided so specifically for her trip.

International Ministries Update November 2024

From: Adriaan Fourie

The African arm of TFC Global, under the direction of Adriaan Fourie, has been restructured to have two primary focus people reaching out to the trucking ministry. Ms. Tunu Lamek ministers in Kenya while Mr. Joseph Jackson serves in the Mwanza area of Tanzania. This move will allow a clean slate for ministry to happen with accountability, continued training, and guidance from our African director who himself lives in South Africa.

In the photo below, Joseph met this driver who is a very young man (boy) who needs to work to provide for his family. He was very receptive for prayer and welcomed Joseph to talk to him. This driver is a reflection of the great need for income that urges all family members to earn an income. During the past two weeks, two trips were made to minister to drivers. Of the 54 people that were reached, ten have committed their hearts to the Lord Jesus.

Sister Tunu reaches out on the Mombasa Highway where the truck traffic is constant between Nairobi and the Kenyan harbor port. The last time her team shared the gospel with thirty people, many came to know Jesus as their Savior. As a woman in Africa, Tunu faces the constant challenge where men will not listen to a woman. But God is faithful; we enjoy seeing how she perseveres in this work. Pray for a female driver who was hijacked and kidnapped recently to be released so she can return to her family.

Adriaan spoke with a former driver who lives in the port city of Durban. As a former truck driver, he understands the need to care for the trucking community. Under Adriaan’s direction, Leonard will serve those drivers in his area. Pray for this team as they encounter drivers and share the gospel with them. Please support this work financially by giving to TFC Global’s International Ministries.

International Ministries Update: Africa

From: Adriaan Fourie

Ms. Tunu Lamek ministers to the trucking community in Kenya. The photo (top left) shows a lady truck driver Tunu met. The driver shared her challenges, including her story from the night before. She was stuck in the middle of a forest after running out of fuel, with no one around to help her. Alone for the entire night, she finally received assistance in the morning from another driver who came along. Situations like this are the biggest fear for drivers in Africa, and even more so for female drivers in vulnerable spots. Pray for Tunu to have the words of comfort and faith to share about the God who never leaves us alone.

Brother Joseph Jackson cares for the trucking community in the port city of Mwanza. In August, a team of people spoke with drivers waiting at the port. Fourteen drivers were reached; six accepted Jesus as their Savior. Pray for continued opportunities to speak with drivers, pray for them, and share the gospel.

We are so thankful for the oversight of our locations in Africa by the African Ministries Director, Adriaan Fourie. Your support of the trucking community in Kenya and Tanzania provides for the resources and travel expenses of Ms. Lamek and Br. Jackson. Logistics are being worked out to get Bibles and other resources directly into the hands of drivers who need them.

International Ministries Update August 2024

August 2, 2024/in International Ministries/by Joanna

Adriaan Fourie shares this devotional in his series called Truckers Call.

When you are asked to attend an event, do you take the required dress code to heart? Do you abide by the dress code? If you don’t, the host could remove you from the event. We don’t decide the dress code if we aren’t hosting. That’s the host’s job.

In Matthew 22:10-14, a king sent out invitations to many family and friends, highly regarded and distinguished people, for his son’s wedding feast. Sadly, this invitation was ignored and in the end, people from the highways were gathered and invited to attend the event. These people who ended up attending the event didn’t have to abide by the dress code. It is reasonable to accept that these people would not have the desired dress and he surely made provision for them to be “acceptable.”

Scripture gives us some understanding of this garment. In Revelation 3:18 the Bible states through John, that God makes the “correct” garment/dress code available so that our shame would not be revealed, but rather concealed. In Jesus Christ, He makes this garment available, when He redeemed us from the curse of the law (as the result of our sins) by becoming a curse on our behalf (Galatians 3:13). Scripture is clear that we are born without the correct garment. If we do not accept the redemption of Jesus, we will be removed from the event or wedding feast. Such a decision has the cost of true repentance and a change of life.

If we accept His invitation and are clothed with the right garment, we will be welcomed into the kingdom of God.

If you need guidance regarding your spiritual walk and relationship with God our faith in His Son Jesus Christ, by the working of the Holy Spirit, you are welcome to contact Adriaan, the African ministries director for TFC Global at 0829598005 (WhatsApp). Returning to Choluteca: A Journey of Faith & Service

August 2, 2024/in International Ministries/by Joanna

By: Doug Smith

Last month, I had the profound privilege of returning to Choluteca, Honduras, as part of a 31-member mission team from ChristWay Church in Ooltewah, Tennessee. This trip marked another chapter in a partnership spanning over a decade with missionaries in southern Honduras. Our collective efforts over the years have included building churches in remote mountain villages, conducting Bible School in public schools, constructing homes, initiating various construction projects, holding dental clinics, and strengthening local churches through ministry programs.

On this trip, our team constructed a new church building in a small village outside Choluteca. Additionally, we visited many surrounding communities, engaging in “Rice & Beans” evangelism. This involved going door-to-door, offering a free gift of rice and beans, and sharing the priceless gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

A highlight for me was the opportunity to share my personal story. Due to unprecedented rain, our plans shifted from visiting high schools to engaging with men struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. We visited two rehabilitation centers, one in the city limits of Choluteca and another in the mountains about an hour outside of town, both facing the same challenge: a lack of visitors and investment in these men’s lives.

Sharing my own battle with addiction and my journey to overcoming it through Jesus Christ was incredibly impactful. We spent time talking with, listening to, and loving on these men, reminding them that they are not forgotten and are deeply loved by others and, more importantly, by God.

On the last day of our trip, I was also given the opportunity to speak to over 1,200 high school students. The choices I made in high school have significantly shaped my life, even now in my late 40s. Sharing this with the students was a chance to impact their lives at a critical juncture.

The ultimate goal of mission work is to spread the gospel and impact the eternal lives of those we meet. However, it is often we, the missionaries, who receive the greater blessing. This trip to Choluteca was no exception, reaffirming the profound impact of faith and service in our lives and the lives of those we touch.

Yo amo la gente de Honduras. Jesus te ama – todos los dias.

International Ministries Update

By: Adriaan Fourie (in Malawi Africa)

The photo is of two mechanics working on a driver’s vehicle. After sharing with them the good news of the gospel, all three received Christ as their Savior. (Reported by Tunu Lamek in Kenya)

Ms. Lamek is a passionate person who shares Christ wherever she goes. She loves to see members of the trucking community come to Jesus and start to share their faith with others.

This is Brother Martin Banda ministering to Aubrey Gadama of Rashy Motors at the Mwanza border post in the Mwanza District here in Malawi. Martin ministered to this truck driver in December 2023 and the driver received Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior. We have a wonderful living testimony that this driver’s past ways of living have changed since meeting and being ministered to by the TFC Global Malawi team.

From: Igor Smits (in the Netherlands)

In a recent conversation on WhatsApp, Igor shared about the struggle to speak with truck stop management trying to gain permission to use a room for weekly worship and devotional time. Pray for the hearts of these managers to be softened toward Igor’s desire to support the professional drivers. Pray for Igor to remain encouraged with the calling God has placed on him to minister to the trucking community.

The photo is of a driver who was a drunkard…someone who didn’t take care of his family. He used to squander his income in a bad way. After receiving Christ, he told us there’s no other way of living than to live for God. He is happy that he can now take care of his family with the little he receives. We handed him a book The Road Home, a Bible from TFC Global.  He said he would be traveling with it and making sure to read it every day.  His name is Lukas. (Reported by Tunu Lamek in Kenya)

trucker from Africa

Since having the vision of putting the Southern Africa Truckers Ministry in Musina to the next level in terms of winning souls and being active, I decided to go to the Sediba truck stop. As soon as I got there, I got a phone call. Then, I went to a pastor’s office, and he wasn’t there. Tired of walking and seemingly accomplishing nothing, I went to Sanweni where I met some truckers though some of their responses to the message of the gospel was disappointing. Then, I met two truckers from Bluestar Trucking Company. First, I talked to Themba who responded very positively — so much so that he woke up his partner so that I could talk to him. We prayed together. They blessed me with a bottle of water and some money. To God be the glory — this interaction made me forget the disappointing moments of my day. International Ministry Updates

From:  Adriaan Fourie

Dear truckers and friends: Have you heard of or met the 30-year-old HendrickChebanga from Hammanskraal who has had a passion for building model cards since he was 4 years old? What a character with a broad smile! His work is appreciated worldwide. Many people and businesses have contracted with him for true-life replica models of their private or transport company vehicles. Across Africa and in England, his work has made an impression. This man is an example of someone who has taken his God-given gift and turned it into a successful business through which he can provide for his family. This passion and endurance has resulted in a worldwide respect and admiration of his art and work. In the same manner, Joseph in the Bible, Genesis 41, had a gift of interpreting dreams and as such was able to interpret Pharoah’s dream on request. Using this gift, he gave God honor and was used for His glory as Joseph stated in verse 16, “It is not in me; God will give Pharoah an answer of peace.” In serving with this gift, Joseph received respect from the ruler. Therefore, let us take our God-given gift and use them where we are for the glory of God. There are many testimonies of believers who have shared their passions, selfless to those around them, and received respect in turn.

Dr. Norbert from TFC Global Tanzania was able to host our Director of African Ministries, Adriaan, recently. This photo is at the bookstore that provides resources for the various ministries that Norbert and Friends Mission manages. Dr. Norbert does a great job of oversight of several teams who support and care for the trucking community in Kenya, Mwanza, and Burundi, among other locations and border crossings. Pray for continued wisdom for both Adriaan and Dr. Norbert.
